I recently had a chance to go to Mumbai. It had been quite a long time since I had last gone there. I have been in Hyderabad for 2 years now, and maybe thats why I started looking for differences between Hyderabad and Mumbai. I didn’t have to look far. The differences were immediately visible.
The first thing that I noticed was the dressing sense. I mean, when I am in Hyderabad in an average get-up, I usually feel that I am one of the better-dressed people. But in Mumbai, I was in one of my best get-ups, and still I found myself to be the worst dresser in the crowd.
The second difference was in the traffic. I mean, you will find some of the worst traffic jams in Mumbai, but still, you can safely cross the road if you are on foot. But in Hyderabad, I somehow don’t feel that way. Same can be said for the two-wheelers. I have been riding a bike in Hyderabad for almost 2 years and I haven’t had any serious accident yet, but I have come close many times.
The food is just great in Mumbai. You feel that you have got your money’s worth. Here in Hyderabad, I have tried many places, but I got same poor quality food everywhere…although I did have to pay different amounts each time (starting with Rs. 45 to Rs. 200). It seems, in Hyderabad, money does not dictate the quality of food. Believe me when I say that I have eaten same quality rice plate in Rs 15 as well as in Rs. 100.
But Hyderabad is not all bad. This city is very peaceful. That is one thing you won’t find in Mumbai. Whereever you go, you will have company of atleast 100 others.
And Oh, Yeah!! I almost forgot about the “autorikshaws”. I want to say that autos in Mumbai are better than in Hyderabad. I want to say that “autowalas” don’t cheat in Mumbai as they do in Hyderabad. But unfortunately, they are same in Mumbai and Hyderabad. I think that somethings never change.
So thats what I felt in 3 days that spent in Mumbai. Had I been there longer, I might have found many others. Have you felt this way about Mumbai after you have left it? I for sure believe, that living in Mumbai is an addiction. Much more like alcohol. At first you don’t like it. But slowly, you get used to it. And then when you have to leave it, you feel bad. And when you get a second chance to taste it, you look for differences in your feeling, just like I did here.
